Sint-Andries, from the parish of misery to the fashion quarter

Antwerp’s Sint-Andries parish was founded in 1523, after its friars were tried for heresy. Its church has a pulpit of fishermen in a boat, a memorial to Mary Stuart’s ladies-in-waiting and a Virgin dressed by Ann Demeulemeester.

Groenplaats: Antwerp’s old churchyard waits for its trees

The Groenplaats was the cathedral’s cemetery until Joseph II banned burials in 1784. From spring 2027 the square is to be dug up again, for 50 new trees and a bicycle store for 400 bikes.
