Amsterdam to Antwerp by train, and on to Brussels and Paris

Since December 2024 twice as many trains run between the Netherlands and Belgium. The Eurocity Direct reaches Antwerp from Amsterdam in 1 hour 20 minutes, and Paris is two hours away by Eurostar.

Van der Valk Hotel Antwerpen, 237 rooms built for the ring road

The Van der Valk Hotel Antwerpen in Borgerhout has 237 rooms, 18 meeting rooms and 315 free parking spaces. It is a conference hotel at the ring road, and a good one to have in a city that struggles to fill rooms midweek.

Het Steen: Antwerp’s oldest building is now its front door

Het Steen was built between 1200 and 1225 and served as a prison until 1827. Since its contested new wing opened in 2021, more than two million visitors have come through the door.

Easter in Antwerp: Rubens, a printing house, a zoo and 4,460 bikes

Easter 2027 falls on 28 and 29 March. Antwerp has no Easter market, but its cathedral holds the Rubens Passion paintings, and one of them is away for restoration.

Antwerp Central Station: the railway cathedral that went underground

Louis Delacenserie’s station opened in 1905 as a terminus. A century later the railways dug 18 metres beneath it, and from December the Eurostar from London stops here.
